In the city, our hearts are covered with dust. The noise of traffic, the endless scrolling, the anxiety of the future—it all creates a veil. But in the mountains of Kashmir, that veil lifts.

At Friend Circle, we often talk about Tazkiyah (purification of the self). It is not just a religious concept found in books; it is a physical experience found on the trail.

The Silence is Loud

When you hike deep into Budgam or trek towards Tattakoti, the signal bars on your phone disappear. At first, you feel panic. Then, you feel relief.

Without the distraction of the world, you are forced to sit with your own thoughts. You realize how small you are in front of these massive peaks. And in that smallness, you find humility.

"Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the earth... are signs for those of understanding." (Quran 3:190)

Wudu in Ice Cold Water

There is a specific memory I have of performing Wudu (ablution) in a glacial stream near Diskhal. The water was freezing. It stung my skin. But that shock woke me up.

Praying on the grass, with the sky as your ceiling and the mountains as your walls, feels different. It feels direct. There are no carpets, no chandeliers, just you and the Creator.

Nature as a Mirror

The Quran often points to nature—the camel, the sky, the mountains, the earth—as signs (Ayat). When we observe nature, we aren't just sightseeing; we are reading the signs of God. The order, the beauty, and the power of the wilderness remind us that our worldly problems are temporary.

So, pack your bags. Not to escape life, but to find it.
